DIY Modifications to DD Frontline??

Hi, has anyone ventured forth and taken scissors or needle and thread, or done any modifications to their DD Frontline??

I was thinking of cutting out one bottom layer...to get rid of some bulk.

No.
I like the double layer. Makes it easy to add a ccf pad for insulation without the pad slipping around.
If I want light weight I take a single layer hammock like my Grand Trunk.

It can probably be done but I shouldn´t do so!

If you want to go leightweight make your own gathered-end-hammock out of ripstop (se sticky on the DIY-forum). Make it as wide as possible for comfort while laying diagonal. Try to find fabric that is 160cm or wider.

Buy a loose mosquitonet or make your own depending on your DIY-skills.

Making a gathered-end-hammock is probably the easiest DIY-project ever!

Hi Boundfree,

I just ordered some parachute ripstop material from englishseadog at 'the bay', an english vendor. it's 125 cm wide, so might be too small, but I'm trying it out for some DIY stuff and some hammocks for my kids.
You can check out his store there.. I'll report back on the material when it comes in and I've been working on it.

I added a structural ridge line and 4 tie outs to my dd frontline this weekend.
The ridge line became a perfect support for my net and makes each hang in the same pitch. and thats great.

Works Great when I flip it and use it without the net as well.

The tie outs makes some more room when I lay asymmetric style, And thats the most comfy way in my opinion.

Makes a Great hammock even Better

I'm new to this forum however I am not so new to winter camping.

Here is my DD set up without the fly, I trawled the internet before purchase including this site.

you may notice my imediate mods, reduced tape/rope on hammock to 12" circle tripple fishermans knot enclosing 2" stainless ring 10mm thick, lighter than most krabs.

Then karrabina to 5 meter "treehuggers" made from 1" tyedown tape breaking strain 3400 lbs for a single tape then all is sewn with the same stretch cotton as seat belts @ £3 ($5) a reel, 3 reels per side 6 reels in total I weigh 280 lbs so I take no chances. I certainly would not remove a bottom layer & as previously stated by others either fitting of camp mat and particularly in my case strength.
