So what would be the best type of cord to use as a tie out?

I too will something make and joy in it's making
well, i have a "best guyline" thread somewhere in the general hammock section. I will bump it up if its not somewhere on the first page.
here's my .02, the stock tarp that came with my HH exployer UL has never let me down as far as getting wet, including some wet windy nights on Dolly Sods, snow, etc. when I pitched it as designed, on the suspension ridgeline. Yes it does sag a little, but when its attached to the ridgeline it stays close to the hammock and keeps the rain off, even side blown rain. When I get up to pee, I just slide the prussiks out to make it a little taughter if I want.
BUT, it doesn't provide a lot of ground coverage if you want to cook under it etc., and you have to move fast if taking it down when its raining. I usually pop one end of the tarp loose, it has those hooks so it quick, then slide the snake skin over that side of the hammock, then the same deal on the other side. I think its a completely workable system, but that said using my cat delux guyed directly to the tree is um..nicer. More room on the ground, you can leisurely take down the hammock in the rain, it never sags that way. But it does weigh a tad more, and there's a couple more lines to tie, and a couple more stakes needed.
To me its a matter of preferences and tradeoffs, but I've never had the stock HH Exployer UL system, not work, or get me wet (but that doesnt mean it can't be tweeked to be nicer).
