Giga Peak is a great lttle stove.... but.... FWIW,windscreens are not recommended for use with it.

at BPL.com they have done some pretty extensive testing on wind screens for different stove types.
also did separate tests on the over heating of fuel canisters. not as serious of a concern as it had been thought to be.

the wind screen i use w/ my snow peak stove since reading those articles, is made of aluminum flashing & comes up to just below the top of the pot while it's sitting on the stove.
but it remains open on one side w/ a gap of about 3".
I too will something make and joy in it's making

depends on the windscreen - if the screen only covers the burner end and not the canister then its a good idea for windy conditions

edit - leaving a gap is good too

It's the one made by Snowpeak for the stove. It fits over the pot supports and just shields the burner.

    Redbeard,

Do you still have the Jetboil cook system? My alcohol stove is having a tough time heating water at 18*. I'm using twice as much fuel as I had planned on using and I'm not yet into the really cold weather. This might be just the ticket for the next few months of cold weather. Thanks.

Like all cannister stoves, JB is hit or miss in those temps, too. It took me 15 min to heat water (not even boil) once at ~20F, windy, 9000'. I could see the flame was not full even though it was turned up all the way. But another time it was ~15F and protected from the wind, and I boiled water in about 5-6 min (lower elevation).

Great stove and I love it - take it on almost every trip - but it's not exactly a cold weather stove. Just depends on what you're looking for.

Might check out backpackinglight.com for tips on using cannister stoves in cold weather.
