Camping/Hammock chat rooms?

I've been hunting around and have so far been rather surprised by the apparent lack of good, active chat rooms for the hiking/camping community. I know WB has opted not to host one because of concerns about moderating it effectively, which is valid. You get a bunch of cabin fever infected hikers in the same chat room in February, and people are probably going to get stabby

That being said, does anybody know of any good chat rooms. Has HF hosting one ever been discussed?

Chat rooms don't offer anything useful that a forum doesn't. With chat, folks that come along later don't get to benefit from existing discussions. And chats tend to wander wildly in their topics, which is frustrating for both mods and readers alike.

Not likely to have on HF.

With all the constant activity and lively discussions here on HF, this whole forum is like one big chat room! Just better organized

i wish we had a chat room... don't get me wrong the forums are great...
but there are times i would like to talk to ppl in real time

Look at my post count. Do you really think I need a live chat room to moderate? Jeez, I'd never shut-up.

For the sake of all that is good in this world, I've gotta vote "no".

This has been discussed before and it was decided that there would be information lost to the community as a whole.

Follow some of the more popular threads and you will see people posting almost as fast as a chat room. Now, go back and ignore any posts that you were not on for. You would lose out on information.

Now, I'm not saying I wouldn't like one, but I understand why there isn't one.

+1 for no. I've been a member for awhiles now. I still dont think I have read close to half the posts in here. Theres that much new stuff, when I log on just to check the new posts, I get carried away and have ended up on here for hours (as the handbrake loves to remind me! )
