Quilt footbox... magnets?

So I'm shamelessly stealing an idea from the "hammock magnetism" thread.
I'm contemplating using Neodymium magnets instead of snaps to close the footbox of my top quilt. I'm getting pretty close to the "finish" stage. I was curious if anyone else has tried this.

Can you see any drawbacks to using this over snaps or velcro? I was thinking of encasing it in a piece of grosgrain or regular 1.1 OSY nylon. Think that will work?

I see no reason why not, but a few things to consider.
Magnets attract everything. Rocks, sand bits whatever. It's not like a magnet in a garage but they would need to be inspected routinely.
Magnets will wear the fabric faster. Make sure something durable is both holding them in place and between the connecting surface. I don't think regular nylon would be up to the task.
Round ones may be easier in the fabric - I'm thinking the toy bucky balls but these may be a bit weak.
What if the magnets at the end of the box attract the ones about your knees?

I don't mean to steer you away from magnets but I think snaps or velcro is so much easier. If you do finish this project, please post pics and a review of how it works.
