    DIY plans sub forum

Ahoy hoy. I've been searching the forums for a diy tarp plan and just some general research on the different tarp types. It occurred to me that with all the different threads and whatnot that maybe it could possibly be a good idea to start a sub forum in the DIY for plans. I know we have some stickies there with some great plans and ideas. I was just thinking from a search perspective that it might be easier when searching if there was a more localized area to search. Anywho, just an idea I thought I'd throw out there.

Similar, to this idea, I wonder if it would be more efficient to start a new thread in the various applicable sections where similar sticky posts could live, to reduce the number of similar stickies.
    Confusing, huh?

    for example:
instead of having 8 different DIY hammock design variations stickied in the DIY section (there are not currently 8, but there are way more than 8 that one might argue are sticky worthy), why not have a single, one post sticky (as in, no one can leave comments on it), that lists links to all of the DIY hammock designs that have reached potential sticky status.

It sure would be easier than trying to search for threads that aren't stickied. Finding old threads can be quite challenging.

So then the DIY section stickies might turn into catagories like:
    Hammock designs
    UQ designs
    TQ designs
    Tarp design
    Hammock accessory designs
    etc.

Substitute the word "tutorial" for "design" if you like.

The way I see it, someone has to be spending time administering the sticky posts. This may be a cleaner way to do organize them that is easier for everyone... admins included.

    Thoughts?

I think it's a great idea. I especially like how easy your suggestion is. Just make one (no comment) thread and toss all the good stuff in it.

i think i would like this - it would allow for easy searching by members. seems there are a lot of repeat questions but i suppose that'll happen in a top post kind of forum.

    I second that!
Seams to be a easy for both members and admin to manage and locate threads that I think is one of the most searched for.
    How's it hangin?

I would love to see a separate plans sub-forum. The DIY section is full of great ideas but they are buried under hundreds of other posts. The DIY section is more like a DIM (Did it Myself) section. I'm not saying that showing off your work isn't helpful, only that if its in a DIY section it should include instructions on how to DIY...

While it isn't hammock specific and is separate from this message board, I created a Make Your Own Gear section over on Reddit.com.

    http://www.reddit.com/r/myog/

It seems to work well for me as a repository system for links to projects I've done or are planning on doing (I linked the Black Cat Tarp links about two months ago). And their seem to be a few other people starting to submit links too so hopefully it will continue to grow.

Feel free to use it if you think it would work for your purposes.

As another option, instead of having a ton of stickied threads, when ever something makes it to stickie worth status make it an article with a link to the thread at the bottom of the article.
