    Krissa's DIY Hammock project

Here is my thread where I will post pics and progress on the two Hennessey clones I will be making, just to keep it all in one place.

Last night I ordered webbing and rope from Backyards Daydreamer. Thanks to everyone for referring me to the site, he had exactly what I needed.

We also watched a movie and ripped the zippers out of our retired 6-man tent. They are really nice long 2-way zippers, it took a long time. I'll upload some pictures this evening.

My rope and webbing shipped today, I hope the snowstorm doesn't mess up the delivery.

The weather here is taking a turn for the worse this week so we are trying to find somewhere inside to test hang our hammocks as we make them. We have two supports in the basement holding up the house but they are only 11ft apart.

Is this too close together to test out the hammock as we are building it? I really want to find some supports 15ft apart. I may have to start asking neighbors . . .

The distance helps getting a good angle, and flat lay. If you are just testing, 11 may do. 12 - 15 is usually optimal.

I'm no expert, but this is what I've noted in trying out tying up between trees in my yard of different distance apart.

That's what I figured. I told the hubby he needs to move the house supports a bit.

If you have a basement, why not set 2 screw eyes in the floor joists, at 16 ft distance, or more? I did that in mine. Set the eyes to face away from the pull of the hammock, so the 'biner lays back against the joist. Reduces the stress on the bolt some.

I wonder if I can do something like that, worth looking into.

On another note, went to Joann Fabric today with my mom (because she loves to fabric shop) and found some black waterproof taffeta for 2.50 a yard on clearance. I got the whole bolt. I'm thinking hammock socks from it.

If you use waterproof fabric for a hammock sock, be sure to design it to have plenty of ventilation. Don't want you to suffocate, or have a very wet (condensation) setup.

Sclittlefield is right, but you could probably make it work. An undercover would be great, though.
