Would a hybrid hammock sock using some breathable fabric allow for enough ventilation. Im thinking maybe somehow working in a 1' strip the length of the top of the sock. Just curious if it would work. Could look like a racing stripe or be done in the same color making it almost invisible. Would this idea defeat the purpose of the sock?

I was thinking about adding a little 'window' in the tarp that could be opened. Just bouncing a few ideas around in my head right now. Our backpacking tent would get quite a bit of condensation on the inside of the rain-fly and to combat that we normally would leave it open a crack.

At such a low price I just couldn't pass it up, even if I just use it for an underlayer or a gear hammock.

My husband had some stupid reason like the house falling down if he moved the basement supports - I just think he was being lazy

Since I think my rope and webbing will show up soon, and it's snowing like crazy here I started working on my first hammock. I decided to make my husband's first that way I could test it out and decide if I want mine shorter.

I am following the DIY directions for the HH clone by headchange4u. The only difference is I am making mine double layer. I cut my material, put the good sides together and did some sewing. I did two lines of stitching for everything. I left 24 inches open on each side which is hemmed to slip a sleeping mat in between the layers.

I turned the hammock right side out and sewed 5/8 of an inch around the border to make it look cleaner and to reinforce the edges, still leaving the sleeping mat 'portals' open.

The last thing I did today was make the end channel so I can add a zippered bug net. I went ahead and reinforced it with webbing now since headchange4u mentioned that he had to reinforce it later on in the project.

I took some pictures that I will upload later today - now I'm just waiting for my rope so I can do the whipping. I wish it wasn't snowing out there!

If the house falls, you'll have your hammocks to dwell in! stretchy optimism I know....

I gotta give him credit, that's one of the better excuses I've heard. I wonder if I can use that the next time my wife asks me to do something...

Her: Honey, can you paint the office?
Me: Sorry, the house might fall down!

Here is the progress I have made on my first HH clone. As you can see, it is difficult to work in my house without an animal laying on your workspace.

I also included a pic of the 'thread injector' I am using. I picked my Juki because it is a bit more heavy duty than my Singer machine.

Can you imagine if they had thumbs? Think of what they'd get into. Yikes!
