Smile Another noob from West by God Virginia

I'm an uber noob that has been around the great outdoors most of his life. However, when I got hitched had kids reached middle age blah...blah..... I haven't been outside enough. Well I told my wife I'd been lurking on this forum and I wanted to hang our kids. She agreed and we have started up the gallows so to speak. Hopefully we will all be hanging by spring. I'm sure many of my questions will have been answered already, so be patient when I post. I've posted one thread already and got a quick and precise answer. I'm mostly a DIY person with limited funds and have made a couple simple gathered end Speer type hammocks. I'm researching tarps and underquilts etc.. with the intention of freeing my kids from their electronic(s) ball and chain. There is some great camping\backpacking around here and plenty of trees. See ya in the woods.... Dan

Welcome, Dan. Bring the family to the MAHHA hang in April. If you post ahead of time we can round up extra hammocks if you need them.

There are no dumb questions; only incomplete answers.
MAHHA = Mid-Atlantic Hammock Hangers Association
The Spring and Fall "hangs" at Gathright Park in Maryland (Crampton Gap on the AT) are great events, with a potluck supper, an equipment raffle sponsored by Jack-r-Better, and opportunities to see and try out lots of different hammocks. Next one is in April. If Dutch does breakfast again, I'm going to bring ramps. You'll hear more about MAHHA from Bugbait and Happy Camper. Last September we also had a group hang at Dolly Sods.

Welcome to HF from the south side

of the Kanawha River! St.Albans to be exact. What is that - five miles by the crow flies? We will have to get together and compare notes sometime.

Jim we'll definately have to get together sometime. I can use all the pointers I can get.

David, thanks for the clarification, if we can make it I'll bring the morels (molly moochers in my lingo) if they are up!
If it works into my schedule (I'm a shift worker) we will definately attend. Also, what about pets (not the kids ha ha...), dogs specifically, we have a couple well behaved pooches?

Well behaved dogs are welcome. I took Bonaparte to the Fall '09 hang, and he didn't do well, so I left him home the next time. Last Fall I had to take him, and fortunately he behaved pretty well. This Spring I'll leave him home unless my wife is going to be traveling again. He's a bit pushy when meeting other dogs. He did fine on the Dolly Sods trip, but he was working then. He's a good packdog.

Molly Moochers are more than welcome. Dutch, we can have a fancy Saturday breakfast.
