I vote to re-create the event, and get some Shug-style video posted!I had been shooting some video, Shug-style, right before it happened.
What is the advantage of using Dutch clips vs. choking the tree by threading the webbing through it's sewn loop end? This is the way I do- it down to the spike hitch, then whoopie sling.
.
For me, the biggest advantage is if you should need to remove your strap from around the tree, you don't necessarily have to undo the rest of the suspension from the strap to do so.

If you're just threading a tree strap, one end through the other, the way you describe then the biner/dc in that spot saves almost zero time, however if you're using a continuous suspension (like the adj webbing suspension, cinch buckles, rings etc), you'd have to remove the webbing from the buckles, then thread 10+ feet through the loop, and re-thread the buckles. In this case, a biner/dc would save alot of time. For a tree-straps-with-seperate whoopies system, i don't see the point, threading one end through the other is just as fast and easy IMO.
