Finallly found my wife's machine! Good news and bad...

It was a wedding gift from her mother, that I never saw. It was briefly used and then put in the closet (in it's case) for almost the last decade.

    Good news...
To my surprise, it seems to have been the top of the line (or near top) Janome from 10 years ago. I was able to find the approximate model on the English site under retired machines. It's the Memory Craft 10,000 or 10,001. It probably cost the better part of $1,000 back then:
    http://content.janome.com/index.cfm/...etired/MC10000

It has a memory card slot, USB (older style) connection, and a computerized touch panel. It even has a help section for some basic functions that walks you through a brief "pictorial" tutorial.

    Not so good news...
As I had feared, all the printed instructions and the touch panel were in Japanese. Not a good thing for so complicated a machine...

But then...I discovered how to convert the display to English! Now I just need to find a download for the English Manual.

Anyone know where to find old Janome manuals?

Funny, John, I was on that page (in above link) but didn't notice the manual download on the specs page. many thanks...

I'm thinking I'll take it to the local service center for a once over...and for some reason this one did not come with a foot pedal...I'll see if I can grab one of those as well.

OK, there are some minor differences in this Japanese model I have and the US model...one seems to be a good one. My machine has a retracting power cord like a vacuum cleaner.

I'll have to get reading to narrow the gap between how much smarter this machine is than me...

Wow, I guess there's more electronic in there than in my dsl-router. You really should start an embroidering service!

Good grief... I just found out the MIL paid more than $3,000 for this thing back then!

Well, I've found the basic manual on the Janome site (thanks to John). Howver, that only gives book one out of the three manuals available. The first is basic setup and function, two is basic sewing functions, and three is embroidery and advanced functions.

Most of the other download sites are frauds, selling something...funny how that works.

I'll have to keep searching for the other two books...this has turned into a Lord of the Rings search...
