I've been working with our local SPCA for years and I have a pretty good understanding of canine behavior. Unfortunately, this dog is used to sleeping in the same room, but not on the same bed as my wife and I. She also is wary of unfamiliar things at night and I can't imagine getting a decent night's sleep with her on high alert and ready to bark at things out there in the dark. Since I tend to sleep better in a hammock than I do in a regular bed, it's more selfish on my part than trying to maintain the usual dominance hierarchy. Besides, I'm a cold sleeper and the extra heat would be welcome.

Bottom line- what a great excuse to get a new hammock.

As long as she's not muddy when you make camp...

I have a mental picture of the boxer shoving you aside to get to the hammock's sweet spot. How do you get the dog into the hammock and where does he/she sleep?
