    Went To Ground...Hated It...Couldn't Sleep

Long story. Was at a FL state park and couldn't hang. Went to ground. What a joke. I can't believe people actually sleep on the ground anymore. From the mere fact that I'm crawling around on the ground trying to get comfy to the fact that I CAN'T get comfy without an air mattress or whatnot.

Give me hammock or give me death!!

I will guess a lack of trees caused this atrocity?

Sorry bro, I feel your pain. Well, figuratively at least.
It could be that the purpose of my life is merely to serve as a warning to others.

I think tents should be sold with warning labels . . .

like cigarette packages have warning labels in Canada . . .

they should have to say "Hazardous to your health"

I bet it was a Fl s.p. ranger.
Its a good reason to have a tent with you.
Set it up on the tent pad per their rules, then slip off
into the brush and hang the hammock. I've done this several times in Florida parks and elsewhere. They drive by, see the tent like all is normal and cruise on. A good camo tarp is a big plus...forget the white cubens in this scenario.

Florida State Parks don't allow hammocks. I'm not sure I'm down with breaking the rules anyway, may get us banned from other parks as well. Easier to go the a national park where hammocks are typically allowed.

Your post doesn't jive so great with your sig-line, then...

Just like hammocking, sleeping on the ground is all about site selection. Pick a good site and it shouldn't be too hard to get to sleep. Or if there are leaves down you can sweep up a big leaf pile and use a poncho or ground pad to make a mattress of sorts.

Same thing happened to me en route to the FL hang. Pitched a backpacking tent but only put down a foam mat (should taken a Therm_a_Rest or worked out how to inflate my exped airmat - has those pillow inflators).

I was at Fisheating Creek and miserable.

Another Miamian at HF??? what part? I'm in West Kendall (the Hammocks).
