Thinking of making short notice reservations for the weekend of Feb. 11/12/13. We would be the last of the 60 slots available in the backcountry. Would prefer to be at Yankee Paradise or Hickory Hill. They tell me this will most likely not be a problem. Since site choice is based on order of reservations I was wondering what experience others have had. Do not want to be faced with hiking all the way to Brickhill Bluff on Friday as it would definitely be well after dark getting there.

I don't remember about yankee paradise but Hickory Hill does still stick in my mind. We stopped there for lunch and were swarmed by more bugs than anywhere else on the trip. I don't know if there's a swampy area around or what but they were bad. I think we walked by Yankee Paradise and didn't even realize it was a campsite. We stayed at Brickhill but had a full day of hiking to get there (no problem). Maybe you can stay at one of the group sites near the dock then strike out in the morning? There's also plenty of places to stealth camp along the trail.....You're in a hammock for Pete's sake
