Isle Royale has been on my list for two years, ever since it came on my radar. I've heard (repeatedly) Sept. is the best time to go do Royale.

I IM'ed BloomGorge earlier about this yesterday but I'll post it here too.
I'll gladly take the lead on setting up a trip to IR. I had wanted to wait a couple of weeks to get the dates of my Sierra trip locked in first but I don't think September is an option for that trip.
I'll start a new thread later today with some of the basic shuttle information and costs. It's not cheap or fast to get to the island.
So hang tight and let's stop the thread hijack.
To get this thread back on track.....how much does it cost to get the boat out to Manitou?
http://www.leelanau.com/manitou/manitou.html
$32 per person, additional charges for canoes and kayaks.
Schedules vary.
Ambulo tua ambulo.
Not likely to be able to take Friday off for Manitou trip, but I always make time for RRG. Let me know if you decide to go. Also planning trip along Manistee this Spring, maybe Green pine lake pathway (MI) or Knobstone trail (IN). Looking to take my nephew for his first time.
$32 is the cost, but with the economy it could always change.

Intersested in both Manitou and Isle royale, will watch post.

After doing some research I realized that I will not be doing Isle Royale in 2011; maybe 2012. The travel time and cost just isn't worth it to me unless I can dedicate a full week to the trip. I'm willing to put up the first post for all of you interested in going to someone else can take it over. Sorry but I had no idea that the ferry ride was an additional 6+ hours on my travel time and the ferries run about $120 round trip and the seaplane out of Minnesota is $290 per person. Unfortunately I just can't do this trip and my Sierra trip in the same year. Isle Royale may be my big annual trip next year.
I'm still in for the Manitou trip.

if you take the ferry out of Copper Harbor MI instead of Houghton it is only 3.5 hrs and 100 dollars
Well, I'm glad there are some interested in this one. The IR is still on my list for Sept., but that's another thread and different month.
After this weekend, I'll post some more about N. Manitou.
