I'm not worried about me, as a group we're only as strong as our weakest link...Packs will be light so hopefully we can travel at a decent pace...

Breck, I DON"T plan on waking at 4:30AM... But if you do I'll have my eggs over easy with three slices of bacon...

It's a pretty good walk from the west side of the island to catch the ferry. Bring a little extra food in case the weather is bad and the boat doesn't come on Sunday. It has never happened to me, but it can. You will be hungry for a day. Last trip back the boat was packed on the interior until we hit open water. My son and I eat chips and drank sodas while everyone was pucking out back There was lots of room for us .

So as not to read all of the post, if I'm clear you are meeting in a campground on Thursday, going out to the island on Friday and coming back on Sunday. Is that correct? I threw it on the calender and if it works out it would be a last minute thing. I really would like to make this trip, just not good timing for me.

When I talked with them on the phone, they were matter-of-fact about the weather decides if they pick you up that day or several days later.

Regarding bugs, that's why the Month of May is so nice, the bugs shouldn't be an issue yet.

As far as setup on the island, I don't care. I'm not going on vacation to wake up at 4-5 AM. 3.5 miles is a pretty fast pace, unless it's all down hill.

I was joking about in that last post.

Even I doubt I could maintain that pace for that distance. I know I can do it for the first 8.5 because that's a regular workout hike that I do on weekends but after 8.5 my sustained pace is a mystery. Now waking up at 4am...that's a daily thing for me and has been since I was a kid if anyone wants to do an early morning hike on Sunday before we leave, just let me know.
