I'm thinking that my first opportunity to hang overnight will probably be Super Bowl Sunday. I'll be a friends cabin. I'm wondering what they will all say when I decline a nice worm bed and instead set up my new hammock in the woods beside the cabin.

Its only an addiction if you are trying to stop. Sounds like you caught a bad case of hammock fever. The symtoms inlcude always wanting to modify your gear and in its terminal stage the compulsion to created your own gear. There is no cure. A few people have gone cold turky and survived but why take the chance.

===> they will first question your sanity, then curiosity sets in, then they want to try it out, not believing you will be alive or functioning in the morning.

Make sure you have a stove set-up close at hand, so when they come to collect your body, you can smile and offer them some hot coffee while you are lounging!

I told them I checked with my hammock buddies and they said it was normal. They are the ones with a problem.
Yep, haven't even had my first hang yet and I'm hearing how weird that I'm going to be camping using a hammock. Around here hammocks are for lazing around on a sunny Sunday and sipping beer. Try to imagine what they would say if they seen some of the "winter hang" pictures.
