Well, I picked up a Eureka Silver City sleeping bag on sale and thought I would give it a try as a top quilt. It is rated to 30* and weighs 2.3 pounds. If it proves to keep me warm down to 30, maybe high 20's with a good base layer...maybe, then I am sure I can shave a few ounces off by removing the zipper and cutting the hood off. Packs down fairly small too. I will try to get a test hang in it before too long and report back. Not bad for $40

BTW...where did you get this bag for $40? Cheapest I see online is $50.

Just found this bag at Cabela's for $39.99 in case anyone else was looking. Seems like the price is right.

I've had this bag for a few but have never had it anywhere near 30. I'm interested if it really can make 30. Its a great bag especially for the price but I have my doubts about its low temp capabilities. Keep us informed. Thanks.
