It's not much for hiking, although it does have a trail, a two track really, it isn't a loop.

On the North side of the lake it is pretty wide open, low Mesquite and such. No official trail, but you can wander all over or follow the two track the Corp uses.

Below the dam, around Willis Creek and on the San Gabriel are all hardwood bottoms and blackland edge. Deer, turkey and wild hogs can be seen most of the time as well as many predators mainly Bobcats and Coyotes. Keep an eye out for skunks, there are a lot of them, and I have even seen several Spotted Skunks, very cool critters!

If you look on the Hiking trail map you will follow the trail all the way until it ends, there is a large "C" there; that is the Primative Camp where we stay. Easy to boat into, but most people don't even know about it, much less hike to it. The trail keeps going after PC also, I can get all the way to Hwy 29 in the West from PC, it's just not 'official trail' I guess. Some of it is bushwacking but most is on twp track.

sounds like a cool area. I am still amazed at how I missed it all this time...
Okay, I just looked here and remember seeing that bridge.
It was a place I wanted to check out but didnt' know about the camping possibilities. I've spent some time on the good water trail on lake georgetown and have a few nice stealth spots to hang.
I'm all for getting off the trail and away from peoples
Although I don't like to get shot at I'll have to check the hunting dates.

Sherpa, I might be available to 'demo' the gear this weekend.
I just know how time passes when I start showing and talking hammocks....

This weekend would be good for me as well. I'm pretty much free both days. Tell me when and where would be the best place for you and I'll head up there.

Yea, check the dates because it is closed to everyone except the hunters on those days. Usually Wed. to Fri @ Noon. The rest of the time only shotguns with shot are allowed (Dove, Squirrel, etc) and archery is full time for feral hogs. Never really see many shotgunners out tho, except during the first days of Dove season, and Duck season, but they are right on the water.
