Hello all of you, glad to join this forum.
Hammocks are great and I have had some great experiences with them and some bad too of course. The more you learn, enjoy and experience, the more you forget those bad ones from the beginning, like when I had my hammock rip on the first night of a week long canoe trip in sweden, luckily, it was only the bottom side of a double layered dd frontline. I hung my hammock just a little too low over a sharp rock. Some sag in the lines made sure the rock started kissing the bottom layer and presto, a nice tear.
I was able to sleep the rest of the week in it because of the intact second layer, but for me it was a real good experience in that it taught me the valuable lesson of potential hammock failure and the ability to go to the ground if you have to. So, so far, no underquilts for me, but sleeping pads with small extra pads for the shoulders.
There's good info here on this site and I enjoy reading lots of it and maybe I can contribute some stuff here and there
