Do you think I could do this with thick dowel rods from Home Depot?

I have been wanting to hang inside for a while, but I don't want to permanently attach something to my walls. Also, I want something portable for car camping. The other large, wooden stands just don't fit the bill.

I finally figured out how to post to the gallery. Linking to this post is beyond me at this time. The pics are in the gallery under homemade gear. Couldn't get the time delay pic to work so there are no pics of me in the hammock (must have gotten in & out of the hammock a dozen times trying to get a time delay pic).

Google for information on curing bamboo. I've read that about 10% will split with any method of curing. I didn't cure mine. I have replaced one pole that split really wide, although it continued to hold me up just fine. I tape mine with gorilla tape.

Treeslayer -- I loved seeing the photos of your conduit trip-pod stand.

QChan - any pics of your dowel rod tri-pod? What diameter rods did you use?

Step 1 - cut down bamboo poles
Step 2 - tape ends to help stop splitting
Step 3 - get busy doing something else for 3 - 6 weeks until no green is left
Step 4 - wait a little longer for just in case
    Bamboo is cured

Old-school spear fishermen here often wrap their hand-made bamboo spears in electrical tape to deter splitting and add general longevity.

Certainly detracts from the natural beauty of the bamboo, but worth considering...

I used 1.75" dowels, I went for the biggest ones I could find. I plan on stabilizing the tripod more with some smaller dowels, I just lack the tools to do it myself, so it works for now.

I nap in it every day
