I'm excited to test out my new TL stand this weekend. I bought my bamboo at Pier 1. About $38 out the door with their fall coupon, including taxes. I'm using a round lashing to make 10ft ridge pole, and the Icicle Hitch to attach loops to it for the hammock. The hitch grips extremely well, although a couple of extra turns are useful with amsteel.

Indoor testing on a slippery floor has been an experience with leg creep. Hopefully grass will be a little more forgiving.

You can find rubber feet or cane tips for your bamboo.

You should be using cordage around the base of the tripods for spread limiters as shown in the first post.

Oh I did, but that didn't stop one collapsing inward.

Gotcha. When entering/exiting, you have to avoid swinging the hammock back so far that the tripods lean and lift the front leg. Don't worry, it's a really fast learning curve (or else you fall down go boom).

Yes, and the weight on the frap of the lashing also had the effect of tightening it, which caused the leg to want to pull in. It is much better with some friction from the grass.

Lots of lightning around these parts....all these aluminum tripods and steel ridgepoles....I dunno....too dry here for free-range bamboo, so 25 fiberglass pole segments coming my way to turtlestand around with. Another project for winter. Stand by. Pics and tale eventually.
