Esteel, is there a lot of side to side motion with that bipod design? I am thinking of building a stand and I like the look of that one. I just worried my fat bum would put me on the ground.

What part do you think about when talking about the sides? As i wrote on the prev page, there is very slight motion (when laying inside the hammock) from head to toe WHEN adjusting my position in the hammock. I was a bit lazy when building the stand. But there is no side motion at all. Guess if i had build it a bit better there should be no motion all together.
The screws really create a lot of pressure and that makes the stand really stable..

    esteel,

What is the length between the two connection points for the hammock? It looks like your stand is about 8 feet in length???? I think I can make that work in my bedroom...

Esteel. Do you think that diagonal braces, toprail to legs, might help in tightening up any looseness?

I'm still trying to find the perfect lenght to get the best lay. Right now its 2,5m (around 98 inches) and i just hung the hammock directly on the stand.

I guess.. but i also think it might be some fiddling to drill the holes as the legs and braces create 'funny' angles..

    esteel,

I need to creat "half" of your stand and use a tree for the other side. If I bolt two short pieces (the short horizontal pieces you have above & below the ridge pole) to the tree, and inserted the ridge pole between them w/ a vertical bolt thru them from the top - will this hold securely and be durable enough?

    Thank you!

I'm no stress analyst but i'd guess it should hold If the connection to the tree is strong enough. My stand at least is secure..

How do you plan on bolting the short pieces to the tree? I generally try to avoid harming the trees by screws or nails but HYOH

has anyone come up with a sleeve of some sort to where the legs can be broken down into two pieces each? If I could make my 7' stand have 3.5' legs when packed then it would be much easier to use when on the road.
