First, try setting up your tripods so the outer poles cross under the center pole.

EMT is slippery too so more wraps and something like gaffers tape or duct tape or Gorilla tape would help.
I tried it that way first (see third picture). I only tried the other way because I saw a lot of other members with the weight on the lashings. When I have the poles arranged as per the image, my center pole is suspended on the lashings above the other two (and that lashing always slips). To actually get it to contact the other two poles I'd really have to loosen the lashings.

I can probably get my hands on gaff tape, I'll give that a try with the increased number of wraps. Would you recommend using a thinner diameter cord (like paracord)?

Looking at the pictures, 2 suggestions. First thinner cord. Second more, tighter fraps. The rule of thumb I learned was one less frap compared to the number of wraps.

I like paracord best for lashing. It gives enough and grips really well. Wrap tight and don't worry about it being too tight, it will give enough to work.

Ok, I'll definitely re-wrap it with some paracord. I'll give that a try later and report in.

If the other methods don't solve the slipping, put hose clamps below the lashing as stops. They are available at all hardware and auto stores.

+ 1 on tighter fraps. Those looked a bit loose. I'll wrap the rope around a stick/wrench/screwdriver and frap around with all the force I can. They should be as tight as you can possibly muster - they're the key to a solid lashing. The only lashing failures I've ever experienced as a scoutmaster (we do lots of lashing) is when the frapping loosened up.

Gmcttr's hose clamp idea just under the lashings is another good idea to avoid slipping.

Kids and I were out bamboo hunting in Upstate SC and were told by some locals about a large bamboo grove here

County Road 271, MARIETTA, SC 29661

I do not own the property or have any right to say you can harvest bamboo there, but some of the locals said take all the bamboo we wanted.
