    gmcttr --Thank you, sir.

Artjrk -- I like your connection system! This may be the way I will put my canopy support system aluminum poles together.

    Joyfully, Turtlelady

Now there's an idea. Drill through the tube where the pins are inserted so you have a double thickness to resist crushing. Good to see you got the aluminum poles. I'm looking forward to the pics.

Speaking of the TL aluminum stand...I wanted to play with my new WBRR today but it is raining. I finally realized the stand might fit under the overhang at the garage doors.

    Success!

Wait until you see what I've come up with using a few more of these same poles....

I actually wondered whether the fiberglass versions would work for a stand too - they do look fairly thick on the website, and if bamboo will work, it makes me think fiberglass might be strong enough too. It would certainly make it significantly lighter and less expensive. The crazy contraption I've come up with weighs a ton but is super-duper-awesome

This is my first posting on HF. Thanks Turtlelady for this awesome design! I have a question in regards to bamboo selection. I was reading there are two types of bamboo, hollow bamboo and solid bamboo. Hollow being, well, hollow, and solid having very thick walls, but still hollow. The only issue that I've read with the solid is it tends to curve more than the hollow. My worry is hollow won't be strong enough to withstand long-term use (and abuse). Which kind of bamboo would be the best for making the tri-pods?

    Tease!

I thought about the fiberglass when I ordered mine and guessed that they might be heavier due to thick walls.
