Lonetracker: I've made three TL stands, all out of tulip poplar saplings, for a natural look (except for the first one that uses a TV antenna mast for a ridgepole). I'm afraid your ridgepole is just too weak. Your hammock attachments appear to be in just the right place. Here's a detail of your set up as you posted previously. Lonetracker's TL.png

It appears your hammock is attached just outside the tripods, which (I believe) is the best spot. This brings the weight straight down, evenly distributed among the three legs. The force pulling the tripods' tops toward the center is significantly less than your weight. But, in this case, enough to bend the ridgepole.

Just get a larger-diameter pole for the ridgepole and you'll be hanging in rustic style in no time!

Found these Bamboo Poles on the Crate & Barrel Web Site. With a 4" diameter and a 72" length, they may make a good portable ridge pole. But at $80.00 for a set of three I wouldn't exactly call them an affordable solution.

    80 bucks? That's pretty ridiculous.

For $80 you can get a welder to make one out of steel

Just new to hammocking this thread fascinates me a lot.
Reading this condensed material of experience two things dropped into my mind.

    1. Would it be a weight/cost saver to utilize unused windsurfing masts? There are different lengths and materials available and the lengths go from 4.3 mtr. for wavesails up to 5 mtr. for racesails. More and more carbon masts are in the market - very light and very stiff.

    2. In order to utilize material around the house for the tripod would it be possible to use two leddars? The common ones with two legs in A-shape when in working position. The larger ones have the horizontal bar near the ground to prevent side-turning. It's not a portable and lightweight solution but nearly everybody has them and with the steps in different hights it's easy to find out the best positions.

    Just an idea......

Chapeau to TurtleLady for this very clever design!

Anyone try this set up with the tripods moved toward the center to decrease the foot print size? Need to make it fit into an 11' room.

I haven't, but there should be no problem using a shorter rail, on mine the rail is about 16 ft. long. The length of your hammock would be the determining factor to fitting it into an 11 ft. room.
