I've heard nothing but good things about the OKPIK training they run up there.

I did the full week's worth of Woodbadge training at Northern Tier one February a few years ago, in my pre-hammocking days. My nights out were in a snow trench.

    thanks for the pics!

Okpik is a great program. It gets the youth outside in the cold weather.

You really can't beat the training at Northern Tier either. They have all of the gear available and you get to use what has been proven to work in the cold.

    Thanks for sharing your adventure

Ya'll look happy to be hanging out in that weather.
Were you warm all night? No cold parts?
    Winter hanging sure is fun.

Hello shug and HF friends. The interpreters were unsure of our hammocks in the cold with DIY warmth. All others were in trenches, but moved to quinzees the second night. Abram Perry came by at night to "tuck" us "above grounders" in which consisted of a candy bar and to make sure we had taken the hot nalgene to bed. Thats the ticket! We sold them on the fact that we came into base 2 days early and had already used the system successfully! They said , might as well then. We made sure in the mornings to listen for the second dragonfly to fire up before we headed to breakfast though. I used a gimme tyvek from a TN home depot store for shelter, but the snow was so dry it didn't matter. I experimented out there with gas and stoves due to Shug's inspiration! Isopro faired poorly, but 4 season Giga reigned supreme from my canister stove. 1st timer for pulk pulling, show shoeing/skiing, and "ahem" snowballin....

    Tks for the encouraging words,
    Nelson
