I have a sb pro, and have spent some decent nights in it. However, I have tried other hammocks, and found almost all others to be more comfortable. Also, the mosquito net is a pain in the you know what. Basically I've ended up ripping off the net, attaching a ridgeline (bc it's difficult to find right sag in it), and re whipping it. I know some people like them, but for me it just seemed sub-par compared to my buddies black bird. I will be buying a new hammock in the coming days, and will be willing to shell out more cash in favor of comfort and ease. Hope this was helpful.

that doesn't discount hennessy either. they go for sale all the time here.. you can usually score one for 100$, tarp included.

I read other folks liking the hennessy. Where would I find that deal?

check out the Claytor Mosquito hammock. I don't have any first hand experiance with the hammock but I own and like the Diamond Fly. The hammock is double layered so it makes using a pad easier/possible. The hammock and tarp costs $150.00 shipped which seems like a good deal

Claytor looks like a pretty solid rig and seems like a reasonable price point.
Thanks for suggesting that one....I had missed it. Seems like it might be a quality rig that I might be happy with for a while even though it would be a starter rig for me.

The best advice I've heard on this forum is to find a group hang and go check out other hangers' rigs and gear. See what they have and why. Check out their customizations.

I have a grand trunk skeeter beater pro, with a kelty noah's 9 tarp, in addition to a claytor jungle hammock, hennessy camo survivor, and an assortment of eno double nest hammocks. love them all for different reasons. some are lighter than others, some are less expensive than others, some are easier to set-up/take-down than others. over all favorite down through the years is the hennessy.

I like my GT double for quick setup/takedown and comfort.
The ENO bugnet works well, has been pretty tough and even allows some light gear to be stored underneath.

With the ENO or GT, an adjustable ridgeline really helps.

The wbbb gives a much flatter lay than the GT or ENO and the netting is a bonus.

Buy some used gear in the for sale forum and try different things. When you're done, resell them.

I'm 6'3" 250, Ive had no problems with my SBPro, just upgrade the suspension, add a ridge line and learn how to string it properly and there should be no problem.

Comparatively both the WBBB and SBP are nearly the same dimensions, SB 6" longer, BB 5" wider. Granted the WB most certainly has better construction, and more features, but as long as both hold you off the ground they should perform nearly the same.

The GT Skeeter Beater Pro is a good starter hammock. The suspension it comes with is worse than worthless. It broke with my 120 lb daughter hanging in it! Thankfully there were no injuries. It does stretch a lot, but I am a big guy. Mosquitos bite through the bottom, so plan on a permethrin treatment or under pad/quilt.

I upgraded to the Dream Hammock DangerBird, and it is a better quality and much more comfortable hammock. Like many things, you get what you pay for. The GT got be hooked on hammock camping, and is probably worth what it costs.
