    Warbonnet Blackbird question !!!!!!

I have a friend about to be sent over to the big sandbox and fight for the good ol USA. I have seen that many soldiers have hammocks and they come up with great ways to find places to hang. That being said My friend has been jealous of my ENO hammock ( I bought it before I learned about this site and blackbirds)

I (being the good friend) have talked his parents into buying him a blackbird.
From the site the options are
Blackbird Double Layer 1.0 (charcoal grey) (i) 130.00
Blackbird Double Layer 1.1oz (black) 175.00
Blackbird Double Layer 1.7oz (olive green) 175.00
Blackbird single layer 1.1 (grey) 160.00
Blackbird Single Layer 1.7oz (olive green) 160.00

Do not take price into consideration
    Soldiers weight 175lbs

Since I am clueless on what would be best ( remember it would be cramed in a army pack for a long time) can anyone offer suggestions. and suspension. And what suspension from Warbonnet.

Any help would be great. Brandon please give input if you see this

I weight 250 and have a 1.1 dbl Traveler, works well. I'd say 1.0 dbl or 1.1 dbl Blackbird with the adjustable webbing suspension (for simplicity). You should also think about an underquilt. I'd think synthetic like the Arrowhead Lost River etc would work better in tougher conditions than down.

I would go 1.1dbl for the adaptability for different environs.

Agreed. Very versatile but I believe they may be out of stock still. Might wanna double check. If so maybe send Brandon an email asking when he may be getting more back in stock. He's very nice and very quick to respond.

If not I'm sure the single 1.7 or the the double 1.+ will work just fine. Is it buggy in the sandbox? Might need that double layer.

Depends what sandbox he is going to play in. Here in Iraq, we have some nasty sand fleas, but 90% of the soldiers are living quite comfortably and combat operations are by and large a thing of the past.

The other Sandbox is more hammock friendly since they have more trees .

Some good info, thanks. I have emailed brandon or [email protected], so hopefully I will hear from them soon.

He is in a SF group so they are not telling them which sandbox they are going, I imagine the bug mesh and a double layer will be needed but the webbing suspension sounds like the way to go from the above comments.
