Being an overkill kind of guy, I went with 1/8" for the whoopies and the ridgeline. My reasoning behind the ridgeline is having every edge possible against a falling limb. Might not be much of an edge, but a better edge nonetheless.

I am 5-10 and 200lb and the 7/64 is what I got and it seems to hold me up just fine.

you could even go smaller if you use dyneglide 1.75 woopies. Thats what I am in the process of testing now. So far ive kept my behind off the ground.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

I've been using the 7/64" but have often considered 1/8" for precisely the reason you give.

Well, if you look at any of the newer winch offerings many are using Amsteel for their lines. The big benefit is you can use a small diameter amsteel line that has the same strength rating as steel wire rope and thus get more line on your winch spool.

I'm using the 2mm braided rope from mountainfitter.com which has a 975lbs load rating for my whoopies etc.

Holding fine and looks just like my original dynaglide whoopies from whoopieslings.com.

Bloody tiny stuff, scary when you first use it. Strong as though and is working great.
I love how light and compact it makes the suspension (18grams a pair of 6' whoopies is nice too.....)
I am a GEAR JUNKIE and GRAM COUNTER !!

There, It's out. I said it, Ahh I feel better now

    Interesting.
So, can you swap out the steel for Amsteel on an existing wench?
We got stuck once camping and my buddy was driving (he doesn't have a 4X4) and he decided to run out an get a wench.

So maybe he can swap out his existing cable with amsteel.

I have tried taking my wench camping but she doesn't help one bit when the truck gets stuck!
