    First DIY Hammock Success(ish)

I did it. Finally. I made my first piece of DIY gear. I got some $1 material from Wally-world, what I believe to be !.9 DWR, but am not positive. I do know the material is heavier than 1.1, so I'm pretty sure that it's a useable strength. I double stitched rolled seams (which aren't even at all) and have finally gotten the machine to stop being a little girl (no offense to little girls) and play nice so that I can sew my straps. I've sewn cinch buckles onto the ends of 1" polyester webbing and then used that to tie a double sheet bend in the ends instead of whipping the hammock. Yay! It's not pretty at all, the hems aren't close to being even, but it seems to work just fine. I'll take it for a test hang later today after it warms up just a hair. I'll take pics as soon as my digital camera decides it wants to cooperate. It's not been working since the RRG hang. Insert dancing banana here! Why do I now have the strange feeling like I have to make another one or something else?

Addendum: Many thanks to Grizzly Adams for the cinch buckles. You've made a convert out of me!

Yep, you've got to make one for Short Stuff now. Congrats!

Yup, that's my next project, I think. I was thinking about taking him to Hancock Fabrics and letting him pick out his favorite color for it. I was there last night getting sewing machine needles and noticed they had a decent selection of colors.

That's where I got the purple for DD1's (Tinkerbell) HH inspired hammock.

Mazel Tov, Hooch my friend. You have satisfied the first requirement of a DIY hammocker, Super Secret Sub-Society of HF. It happens that HC4U is the Grand Vizar of SSSS-HF. He'll be by just after he gets off of work to teach you the Super Secret Sub Society Sewing Song you sing under your breath as you make additional hammocks. That was the problem with the stitching all along...you didn't know the helpful incantations. But like boot camp, you got to get through the first one.

    welcome to the SSSS-HF

I'd be happy with the secret hand shake. Then I won't have to listen to HC sing.

It's a slippery path you've stepped on Hooch. Congrats on your first project. It doesn't matter what it looks like, I've seen parents go goo-goo over some awfully ugly children. But, they made them so they are always beautiful to them.

Now you just have underquilts, topquilts, tarps, packs, stuff sacks, hammock socks, vests, headwear, etc, etc, etc left to go.
    Trust nobody!

Congrats on your first DIY project. You did better than I did

I started making a stuff sack and never finished it. I had material to make 2 hammocks, gave part of it away and the rest is still sitting in the bag from 3-5 months ago. I just can't get into it
