What's wrong with manufacturer suspension?

Got thinking about it and have to ask.

Almost every post about hammocks suggest changing out the suspension on a good many brands. When I came to the forum and started reading I found myself soon replacing the S-hooks on my Grand Trunk, and the webbing on my DD, and the caribiners on my ENO.
I usually car camp, or trek short distances, so weight really isn't an issue.
The manufacturer suspension is used when the hammock is load rated.
The manufacturer markets a product they want to sell, so I'm sure they do a little research into the suspension design they use.
So why are we so quick to replace what the manufacturer thinks (knows) will work?

I can see replacement when weight is an issue, but I can't honestly say I sleep any better with whoopie slings on my Grand Trunk, or AHE webbing and chain links for my DD or ENO.

Is it really an improvement, or are we just too easily infected by the mod bug (modification virus).

tinkering and ease.
the grand trunk in particular only offers you a limited amount of adjustment.
some people aren't fond of knots either.
webbing and rings, or whoopies are just to easy for most to deny using them.

For my HH, changing to whoopie slings is a lot lighter, and way more simple to set up and adjust than tying the suggested manufacturers knots. It's just as strong too. Nothing wrong with the HH set up, whoopies are just easier.

Switching to whoopies on Eno saved on weight and I can even say that they improved my sleep. I had the Eno Slap Straps before and woke up with my butt on the ground after they got wet and stretched one night.

Ease of adjustment is a huge factor in my mind. Nothing wrong with any of the OEM suspensions if that's what you like. But IMO you can't beat some of the replacements for ease of use.

Many of us on the forum want the suspension systems to be light weight and easy to use under a wide variety of hanging conditions. Unfortunately many of the big name hammock makers stock suspension systems do not meet that requirement. Plus we just like to customize our hammocks to our own hanging needs. These is no one perfect system so you have lots of choices to play with to find one that works for you.

Just like a stock car or truck. Many people can not resist taking a stock car/truck and changing things on it to make it more user friendly for how they plan to use it.

Another factor is ease of use on the stock suspension systems. They are geared for fool proof use for liability reasons. Some of our lighter, more adjustable systems require some familiarity and and may seem somewhat confusing for the first time buyer. Nothing wrong with using stock suspension however, we just like to modify things to better suit our purposes that's all...Bush

I was completely happy with the stock adjustable webbing on my WBBB...until yesterday. I got some Elephant Trunks (see ETs below) from Bloomgorge to replace the cinch buckles and make the webbing easily removable from the hammock. A secondary thought was I could pass the flat end throught the sewn loop end of the webbing with the ET attached (so no biners would be needed) and the sewn loop is just too small. Now to buy another set of webbing straps with a larger sewn loop.
