    Weekend plans?

I'm planning to do some cold weather hanging in the back yard tonight (low 20's).

I'm planning to try out my Ray-Way top quilt (alpine option) tonight that I made last year but never really got to test in cold weather, and I'll use my extra large HH silnylon tarp staked to the ground to block the wind, maybe with some end cover triangles that I cut from my 9x9 GG tarp...

I'm hoping to begin a down underquilt project this weekend, the down should get here tomorrow or later today.

Anyone have some cool trips planned for the weekend or anything? Gear to test?

I'm going to make my second 'hammock sock' attempt. First one didn't fit quite as well in real life as it did in my mind. You'd think I'd stop listening to that voice; he's never right!

I still need to cut out the extra material in my hammock sock and patch up some rips where the drawstring pulled on the hole I made for it. (gotta learn how to sew buttonholes!).

My next project may be a new hammock sock to go with a longer hammock. First things first though, right?

I'm going to put a strip of some really lightweight ripstop (poly) I found at wallyworld a couple of inches wide down the length of my sock and widen it a bit. The ripstop is not coated at all; I can breath normally thru it. I think I was getting a little compression from the last one and the strip of untreated ripstop should help with condensation.

Since you have some DIY 'sock' experience, whatya think?

I was wondering how you were doing, Ewker. Congrats on getting out.

Ewker- Since I know you to be 'bi-shelterual', the big question is: are you hanging or ground sleeping on your trek?

I haven't decided yet. If the nonet Claytor had come in I would have taken it just to try it out.

I may take both since it is only a 3 mile hike in. I will take my insul mat max pad and a 1/2" ccf pad with me that way I can use either one or both if needed.

I am more interested on how I will do backpacking which is why this is a short hike in. I did do a short 4 mile dayhike last weekend that went well.

Suppose to be highs in the 50's lows in the 30's

I keep forgetting you're still in recovery mode. I hope it goes well for you; I like short hikes sometimes. I get the benefits of 'getting away' and a few heavy luxury items; usually a fishing pole and a small tackle box.
