Black Bird 1.7 double with the WallyWorld pad, a BBO (Bear Burrito Oven), a rectangular synthetic bag opened up as a cushion with my old North Face Ibex down sleeping bag as a top quilt and a small camp pillow. I was wearing socks, long pants (blue jeans), t shirt, 550 fill down parka and a fleece hood and fleece gloves.
I did have to abort the hang about half way thru the night. I was pleanty warm except for my hands and feet due to the blood thinners I am on. The blood thinners make me very sensitive to the cold (but the crazy thing is that its not consistant), espcially the hands and feet and I did not want to risk possible injury so I went inside. My wife thought I was crazy to have even gone out there. There have been days at work ( and I work inside a heated building ) I have worn gloves becuase my hands were freezing.
The temp was 18 degrees when I left the hammock.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !
Thanks for the info, Gunner! Sounds like I need more insulation for temps that cold. Might have to make an IX UQ and TQ.
I have used a really thin blue CCF pad (1/4 inch maybe) that I found up in our attic down to 7 degrees with just a 15 degree synthetic bag. I added wings to the pad for my wide shoulders (used duct tape). I dubbed it "Frankenpad". It kept me warm enough to grab sleep pretty well, but I definitely wasn't toasty. I also had some condensation problems.

Ridgerest has been good for me down to 28 degrees with a 20 degree sleeping bag.
So... just to clarify. My girlfriend and I have a trip scheduled for a month from now, with lows expected in the upper 40's, low 50's at night. I was wanting to do hammocks on this trip, as it is new for both of us. We both have Hennessy hammocks. Should a blue walmart pad, appropriate sleeping bag, and maybe some sort of base layer be comfortable in that temp range without anything else like overquilts, underquilts, ect ect?
Thanks! I actually watched a ton of your youtube videos today, Shug. Very informative!
