    Cuben Tarps: Who's useing them.

So I saw Kayak Karl cuben tarp from zpacks at the NJ Winter Hang and just had to order one so I did (after selling off some gear first as per wife's request, gear comes gear goes but the trail is always their and that's good enough for me). Any ways so besides Kayak Karl who has been using cuben material as a tarp, how has it held up, strength of material, stretch to it, tight pitch etc. Any light that can be shed and information shared would be great. Ive already ordered the tarp so its not a question of if I am or am not going to buy it but others experiences with the use of cuben as a tarp. Joe said he used one for 152 days on the PCT with no problems so I'm not really worried just trying to generate some conversation about this up and coming more popular material. My tarp dimensions are 8.5 width 13' length and an 11' ft ridge line. It has 4 tie outs on both sides and 2 panel pulls on each side. Its the same dimensions as the BWWD but instead of being 10 wide its 8.5 wide and instead of weighing 22 OZ its going to weight 6oz, that's 16 oz of weight savings . Ill certainly post pics but wont get the tarp for apx. 6 weeks. And am hoping their is some good chatter about cuben tarps. It appears to be a great light weight durable material.

Id also be interested in how cuben compares to Spin UL in regards to durability. Spin was nice to use for a short while but wanted to try cuben so I sold my spin ul oes delux to fun this. YEAH MAN I love ordering new gear.

I have the zpacks cuben tarp. Love the packability and weight savings. Only had 2 nights tested so far during my thru hike of the LI Greenbelt Trail (measly 33 miles)

I have some DIY cuben stuffsacks. I think you'll be extremely satisfied.

As far as durability compared to Spinn, I have damaged my Spinn Mamba Jamba tarp and I have damaged my cuben and repaired both. Both are easy to repair.

Spinn - GE II silicone adhesive and scrap spinn patch.

    Cuben - 3M 9460 tape

Good tip, thanks, Yeah I'm not so worried about not being satisfied I don't think ive even been dissatisfied with any vendors whom Ive meet through HF. I like the cuben cause its so much quitter and still lighter then spin. So why is spin so much popular then cuben if cuben is lighter and not all that much more expensive. Has it just not blown up on the HF scene yet or and still flying under the radar. I cant believe i have to wait six week oy vay.

I'm with you GLP. That's not a bad price and the weight is very enticing.

at the time he did not have 8.8-11, but does now. i patterned it after JRB 10-11. 5 tie outs on 11' side and 3 on 8'8" side. then added two side pullouts on each side that also hold back doors.(as in photo) i really like it, but can not get it back in the sack it came in. if i had known i would of paid extra for a larger stuff sack.

The max width that he is able to do is 8.5. The reason for this is BC the roles of cuben he gets are only 8.5 in width. This is the same width that Brian uses on his OES Deluxe. Besides that constraint he can make them as long or short, rectangle or cat cut what ever you want he will basically do. Here is the tarp he is going to be making for me.

P.S. in Stuff Sack this should weigh 6oz not including seam sealing
