I found living in BC (vancouver specifically) I never really had any issues with finding places for one or two nighters close by. Now living in Ontario - north of Toronto - I'm finding it much more difficult. Not to hijack the thread or take it off topic but I thought what better place to ask than a thread of convurgent canadians. If someone can PM me with some ideas of what they do, it would be greatly appreciated (algonquin is always and forever an option but 3 hours away for me - more a multi-day getaway).

Sorry for any interferences Mods. Please remove if an issue.

It seems the more urban the area, the harder it is to find places to random camp. Here in Edmonton there's quite a bit of forested parkland, but it all has quite a bit of traffic. Someone crafty could find a spot if they really wanted to. Outside the city is tough too because most of the land is occupied. Though there are parks and "conservation lands" around, most of them only allow camping in designated places. A couple hours west or north and we have lots and lots of crown land available where random camping is perfectly legal.

Exactly what I'm looking for. Might too much to ask for in Southern Ontario!

Hi Keyboard Cat, I am in Richmond, BC south of Vancouver. My summer schedule is really busy so far. A west coast Canada hangout may require establishing a date and location to see who shows up. As has been said, many areas are easy to access whether by foot or vehicle, (parks or private). Enjoy the trees at the pacific jamboree, unable to attend with the scouts.
