    Talking Going into surgery.....

Keep my sleeping bag in your thoughts tonight. It is a young bag, in its prime, who thought that just because it was expensive it would be spared being converted to a top quilt for its owner. It will go into surgery as a North Face Propel 40 degree bag (Old style no zippers 16oz) that has proven it can go there and then some.

If all goes well it will come out of surgery a little lighter as a nice synthetic quilt with a Pertex shell that will see much use in its new form. If things don't go well it will join the other DIY projects that died during surgery.

Surgery will be performed by an unskilled DIY hammocker that has been brain washed by the group at hammockforums.net into thinking things like this are a good idea.

Surgery was successful. The cuts have been made and stitched to stop the loss of insulation. The final stage will minimize the scars of the surgery and it will be released for use immediately.

    Thanks for your support.

Sierra Trading had zipperless Golite synthetic bags last year marked down to $40 for the smallest size. My wife opened one side, leaving a footbox, it fits my 5'3" daughter perfectly.

Yeah, I left the footbox from right above the knees down. It makes it really easy to tuck in with the footbox intact. I can use this quilt in with my clothing system for most of my hiking trips.
