    Found Some Down!

Bought an unused Frostline SB kit from 199x or so. Paid $20.

The seller had a completed SB that looked great! 20 minutes of sewing and it could have made 2 UQs... but he committed that to another buyer...

SOOOOO... I now have a box of 450+ quality down.. yes, it's not 800, but I paid $20 for probably 2lbs of the stuff...

It's a shame to break up the kit... but... the fabric is heavy... (hmm... backpack!) the baffles are nylon strips... it did come with everything needed: thread, down, fabric, etc...

    ideas welcome... I'm thinking a 30=degree UQ...

My personal choice would be a 30 degree UQ / down vest.

Finally had some time to open the box.

    Here's what I found:

32 bags, about 1/2 weigh 1.1oz, other half are about 1.2oz!

That's 2lbs of downy goodness! WOW!

The Fabric is pre-cut, probably 1.9, definitely has a strong DWR coating... (did the faucet test.) 2 pieces are rectangular, so I could make a 2-tone poncho, but who knows...

If anybody wants to make a synthetic sleeping bag, or want's the fabric, let me know! It's forest green and a dark mustard color. (ok, I said Yellow, wife said mustard... what do I know?)

I'm thrilled I finally found some cheap down!

Very interesting idea... but since I rarely hike in sub-freezing weather... though it does sometimes get cold around camp... a wearable UQ isn't a bad idea!
