    Angry Hammock Stolen, Very Unhappy

    Hey all,
I just have to share with my fellow hammockers this frustration of mine. My family and friends don't seem to get it.

After my ex moved out (unbeknownst to me while I was at work), I noticed that he stole a ton of my camping stuff:
water filter, compression sack I used on the AT, sleeping bag liners, sleeping pads, Crocs, my Zen MP3 music player, camp stoves and fuel, fuel bottles, nalgene bottles, camp towels, lanterns, the list goes on and on.

I hadn't considered it, because I had stored it away so well, but I discovered yesterday that his sticky fingers also got my WBBB, including my homemade snakeskins and my Dutch Clips. He also took all of my heavy-duty carabiners and my supply of Amsteel.

With unexpected medical bills and a low-paying job, I just can't recover these losses, especially before my planned spring trip on the SHT. I'll have to go back to tenting with my lone, spared Walmart sleeping pad.

This is a very angry day in the world of hammocking.
Lesson learned. I'm locking up my gear from now on and probably not dating.

Here's a photo of my poor, stolen baby. I miss her.

I'd love to, believe me! But I don't have the faintest idea where he is. I'm just trying to let it go. Eventually, I'll get all new gear that's never been tainted by his memory.

That gear isn't cheap. I would recommend trying to talk to him about it--maybe get his parents or somebody he is morally accountable to involved. There's not much you can do to recover money from a moocher, but a theif is another story. He's putting himself at risk of a felony conviction.

I understand and respect the idea of moving on and letting go, however, I gotta say that I agree with the others that have posted that reporting these items stolen is the right thing to do. You don't have to know where he is to report. Nothing may come of it, but by not reporting, you can be certain that nothing will come of it.

The police will find him real fast. Also, I would keep up with craigslist in case it ends up on there. Good luck with everything.

    Why not ?
What the heck, he is a thief.
Call them and see what happends, let them find him.
Why should you give up all those nice things to that B*STAR* ?

Come on, make the call and get your gear back !

Good luck, in what ever you decide to do !

I would def report it to the police otherwise he will easily get away with it. Like others have said nothing may come of it but at least its a piece of mind. Also I like the idea of some one who could appeal to him morally may be able to get it back easier. I say call him mommy on him. Good luck
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.
