    Bottom insulation

    Hey everyone,

I bought an all weather emergency blanket, the kind that reflect heat back at you and I was wondering if I could use it as my bottom insulation when I get my BB double. You know, stick it in between layers. It is 7' by 5'. Would breathability be an issue on the bottom and cause the dreaded back sweats?

I'm not too sure on the breathability aspect, but as for warmth it realy depends on what temperature it is when your out, at this time of year I think you may have a realy cold butt!!! I have a full length UQ that takes me down to maybe 15-20 but colder than that and I have to add something else...! Maybe a great late spring/early fall option?
However the only way to be Sure is to try it out as you may not be affected by the cold as much as I am( the English love the rain but not the cold!!!) hopefully somebody else has actualy tried this option alone and may be able to give some more info on breathability,

I agree with Mat when he says "try it out". Each person is so different, what works perfectly for one, could be a disaster for another. The most important thing when trying a new piece of gear is to find someplace local and safe to experiment with it first. Do not EVER go to the woods with an untested item.

It should be similar to the emergency blankets roll in the HH Supershelter.

I have used a reflective blanket between the layers of my WBBB with success, but that was in addition to an underquilt. It helped keep me warm and toasty and I didn't have any condensation issues, but yea results seem to vary by person.

Ok well I will for sure test it out and see how it goes. I'm trying to shed serious poundage from my load so I'm looking for innovative ways to do so. The emergency blanket seemed like a good thing to utilize.

I would also be interested to learn how that works out. I have a WBBB & will soon have an incubator but I also have the blanket & wonder if that can be used in warmer weather.
