    What's your recommendation for a descending ring? There were quite a few options... and we don't have a REI here. The one from Whoopiesling.com is out of stock... Your advice would greatly appreciated.

    I've used this with my HH for the last 3+ years, including during my 6-month AT thru-hike. I have a loop of Amsteel Blue larks-headed to the descender rings and then clipped into a carabiner. The biner is clipped onto the tree-hugger. I used the stock cord on the HH to make the garda hitch through the descender rings. When I first started using it I used to tie a slippery half-hitch in the cord as a safety, but soon quit doing that. They have never slipped for me.
