Tarp Pole Mod

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to determine the length of pole needed to use with pole pockets by 2q2z for a Hennessy Hex tarp?

I laid my tarp flat on the floor. Measured from pole pocket to pole pocket and then added one foot. When I received pole, I tried it in the set-up tarp. I had to take the pole out and reinstall several times. I cut off one inch at a time from the pole, until I was happy with the way it stretched the tarp. Tip- Make sure the section of pole at the apex of the curve is a full length section of pole. Cut from alternate ends to keep the full length section perfectly centered in the apex or middle of the tarp. Might be an easier way, but, this worked for me.

I estimated mine with some electrical romex wire..... err a bit on the long side if in doubt.
