    Hike 'n Hang, Mt Solitary, NSW, Aust; 26-27 March

    Hi All,

    Last year we floated the idea of a group hang on top of Mt Solitary, in the Blue Mountains National Park.

    Dates have been confirmed (between Lepmeister and myself) so details are below;

    Date: 26th and 27th March.

    Location: Blue Mountains National Park, Mt Solitary.

    Getting There: There are trains and buses to Katoomba, and a shuttle bus from Katoomba station to Scenic World. Driving is probably the best option as the car can be left in an undercover carpark at Scenic World overnight, at no cost.

    Hike Details: Meet out the front of Scenic World at 8:30am. Depart Scenic World no later than 9am.

    Hike from Scenic World down the Furber Steps. At the bottom, follow the track to The Landslide, then continue to Ruined Castle. Should arrive about 11:30. Allow an hour at Ruined Castle to climb and break for lunch. I've been there many times and it never stops being amazing.

    Continue from Ruined Castle along the ridgeline then up to Mt Solitary. We can either break camp on the summit, or continue along towards Chinaman's Gully (a further 1.5kms) and camp at one of the many sites. Numbers will affect the hang locations as some of the campsites are small. Mt Solitary summit is large and very well spaced for Hammocks.

    Water: There is generally no water on Mt Solitary, and the water at Chinaman's Gully is inconsistent at best. I generally assume there is none and carry it in.

    Weather: Temperature in March in the Blue Mountains range from avg lows of 11 to avg highs of 21. March is also the second wettest month for the region (avg rainfall of 162mm and 13 days in the month).

    Weather in the Blue Mountains is incredibly variable and can easily reach the temperature extremes. It is best to prepare for the worst (heat and cold) and pack cold and hot weather clothing and shelter accordingly.

    Maps and Detail: The track is clearly defined and well marked, however Maps and Track Notes can be found on the Wildwalks website. Link is;

    More Info: If you want any more info, please PM me.

    Hi everyone,

    I've just moved to Sydney from the UK with my family. I'd love to sign up for this trip. I bought a Hennessy about 6 months ago but have only used it a small number of times and haven't used it since landing in Australia.
