Mod on the ENO

Okay so I have an ENO DBL and I want to get rid of the heavy biners for two reasons, their heavy and I don't like having to guess where to tie a knot in my webbing to hook the biners too.

So there for I want to take off the biners and attach about a footlong cord with larkshead on each side to ring buckles. For the time being I got steel rings from Lowes (kind of heavy but only 90 cents) that have 200 pound weight limit. I weigh right out 200 pounds, but with four of them who knows. As of right now my huge question is that I am using parachord from the hammock to the rings. Will parachord hold me? Also to tie the larkshead, I just used a loop knot (fisherman knot) on each end. Hopefully tomorrow morning, when its not 1 in the morning I can get a picture up and see if it looks applicable.

Paracord would hold but I would not put a lot of confidence in it. It does tend to stretch and I have read about paracord breaking when used to support a hammock (can't remember where). If it's all you have maybe at lease double or triple it up or pick up a short length of climbing rated rope. You may find it pricey but consider the AHE cinch buckles and chain link. or at least just the chain link to use with your rings.

To make the loop, two double fisherman's knots work well.

yeah I have been looking at the AHE suspenions, I'm just trying to do this as cheap as possible, even though the buckles with chain is only 25 after shipping, thats a fourth of a new tarp I need, haha, but yeah I'm just worried about the parachord stretching.

Looking at your setup you could (with some effort and elbow grease) undo the that first knot in the stock cord and larks head it around the rings. I have undone similar knots tightened from being used as suspension. It hard but doable.

I would be leary of both the welded rings and the 550 cord. Then again, I'm 310lbs.

odds, the only reason I'm leaving the stock cord right now is just in case this doenst work I can easily attach the biners back to them

Rick, yeah I think I'm going to go get some climbing rated cord today, try and fine the strongest but thinnest cord, and for the rings thats all I have right now so I'm going to have to roll with it

Yeah I looked at those rings too, but my wife gave me the "i you wont hang from them what makes you think I will" look, lol.

I still rock the stock equipment for now. Now sure if I'll ever change it. There are so many choices out there it's hard to pick only one.

When I made my DIY hammock, I used paracord tied exactly as you said. It was for testing purposes only. I needed to see how the hammock felt before I committed to the size. It held just fine, but it did stretch some. I don't know that I would always use it, but it can work. I'm 250+ so it should hold you. For how long, I don't know. I did replace them with amsteel for the final set up. I'd go ahead and order some amsteel and make two continuous loops. It really is easy once you get the hang of it. Don't know about the rings. I use the smc rings rated at over 3000 pounds. You could just make sure there is nothing under you that will hurt and hang close to the ground. At least until you get stronger suspension components.

Edit: Just saw your pictures. Mine were tied differently than that. I made a big loop and larksheaded it onto the rings, then onto the hammock. Don't know that it would, but I've been able to slip a knot like what you have. My wife and I use ENO DNs. And yes - those 'biners are massive!
There are a bunch of DIY threads on making and installing whoopies. They are ultra light and ultra strong, and the splicing isn't nearly as complicated as it looks at first glance. They are easy make (or easy to buy) and install, and they'll give all the adjustability one would ever need. IMHO.
That's my 2c worth.
