    Hanging on Walls/ceiling in bedroom?

    Hey all,

I have read a few older threads on this topic with NCpatrick, Pedro, Ramblinrev & a few others.

But all situations are diff. So here is my canvas -

I would like to hang 2 hammocks in about the same diagonal direction the bed is going - each off to the side of the fan..

    Measurements
Going diagonal from the far corner behind the bed out to the fan area is approx 10ft. + a little

From the far corner along the walls on the left just before the window is 10 ft and to the right just after that window is 10 ft.

I'd rather hang from walls or ceiling. The attic it above that ceiling. so I do not mind making small holes to get to beams up there if needed. which was one thought --- Drill small hole(s) to get to beams in attic run amsteel up there - attach to beam somehow? bring amsteel back down to attach hammock. In the corner? - I may look into the hooks with plates similar to what knotty used ?

I have a Brazilian hammock on order - not sure how far apart it needs to hang?? http://www.hammocks.com/hammocks/han...richammock.cfm

    Suggestions? blueprints?

    Thank you!

ps.. once I finish drilling holes that paint is going! I've hated it for so long - now is a good excuse to change it

According to your brazilian hammock link.."Overall hammock length 14'." So I doubt it will work in the 10' span you have?

gargoyle - I'm not sure? Was hoping someone with a Brazilian hammock would chime in. It's to my understanding these type of hammocks need a lot of sag...

I don't think overall hammock length directly correlates to required distance for proper hang. As others have noted in other posts, brazilians hang at about 45 so they need less of a span. You may have to research other alternatives of a 10ft span isn't long enough. Perhaps not running diagnally but parallel with the wall could give you a few extra feet.

Opie984 -- do you know the approx min span? or the desired span length?

Now my question still is - better in the walls or attempt to go into ceiling?

As long as you get a stud or truss I don't think it matters

just a complete guess without crunching numbers, I would say that 10ft is probably your desired span length. If you could find somewhere to hang it at different span lengths to find what you like most would be best and then hang accordingly.

The way it is hung in the picture might be a good solution.
Looks like an eye bolt (or eye lag screw) into the top of the wall stud, with a big clip / carabiner to attach to the hammock.

I've never tried a brazilian (hammock or, uh... hair-do), but can't imagine being comfortable to sleep in the banana shape of the one in the picture.
I hope it works out for you.
