Grayson Highlands Fall Festival; Sept 23-25, 2011

I was asking about power for the education site as I have loaded a bunch of Shugs hammock videos onto a laptop that we could play ( I contacted Shug and got his permission to use the videos ). If I run the laptop on its battery it only last a couple of hours.

According to a weather report yesterday there is a chance of rain this weekend.

If you'd like to do that Gunner, I'll email Kevin & ask if he has an extension cord or if we would need to bring one.
Also how long it would need to be. Just going by memory I'm guessing 50-75'... but you know how memory is

I am trying to pull things up on Google maps. I put in the parks address (829 Grayson Highland Lane, Mouth of Wilson, VA 24363) and wanted to know if it is the same as Wilson Creek. My options to choose from are:

Grayson Highland Ln, Grayson, Virginia
Grayson Highland Ln, Wilson Creek, VA 24363
Placement on map is approximate

2463 Highlands Pkwy, Virginia
2463 Highlands Pkwy, Mouth of Wilson, VA 24363

Highlands Pkwy, Grayson, Virginia

I'm not sure that any of the above makes much difference as long as it gets us close, but I wanted to double check. Thanks Gang.

I went to the Grayson Highlands State Park website and printed out a map. It does give the address as 829 Grayson Highland Lane, Mouth of Wilson, VA 24363. The visitor center lat/lon is 36.37.4950 / 81.30.0349. Phone number for the park is 276-579-7092. The main entrance to the park is just off Hwy 58 (aka Highland Parkway).

I'm planning on coming up for the festival, but won't be hanging. Staying with some buds in Lansing, NC. I will most definitely be at the hammockforums demo area on Saturday with a notepad, however. Gathering data for a Christmas list if you know what I mean ...

I live/work in New Bern, NC (coastal NC and former temporary home of Hurricane Irene) and unfortunately, can't leave work until late in the day on Friday. About a 6 hour drive to Lansing from here. Good news is that Lansing is less than 1 hour from Grayson Highlands. Just have to get going early Saturday morning with a pot of coffee, maybe some eggs, bacon, sausage, etc. at the house and head that way for the day.

I'd like to "request" a space in the lower lot since my dad is bringing his ukelele and I'd like to limit how hard he (or I as the loving son) will have to hoof it to the car to lock it up on Friday and/or Saturday nights... I MAY have a clean copy of one of my books for the raffle, which I will be happy to sign for the winner... IS it Friday yet?

Parking - there is space for 6-7 cars in the lower gravel lot between the store & the group site as well as another 3-4 spaces on the road and maybe 4 across the street. However, the street and across the street parking isn't reserved for the group site, so those spots are maybes......So to answer your question 6-7 car definitely, and more if space allows.

I'll add a few more Slowhike thoughts.
Even when their are more than open spaces, I would still encourage remote parking for some of us just because those extra parking spaces are often used by other campers stopping at the store & hikers using the access trails across the road.
