    Greetings from L.A. (Lower Alabama)

When I was a young boy scout at summer camporee, I asked my scout master if I could sleep in the canvas hammock he had hung beside the dining fly. He said it would be uncomfortable, that it was just for short naps, but I talked him into it. I still remember it being one of the best night's sleep ever when camping.

When I was in college, my girlfriend's father owned a 25' Catalina and would take us sailing on long weekends. I remember lying in my bunk, hearing the soft lap of the waves against the boat and feeling their gentle rocking. Those, too, were some of the best nights of sleep ever.

This afternoon, I lay in my Grand Trunk Ultralight with my faux Pea Pod (35° North Face mummy bag). It was warm and comfortable, gently swaying in the light breeze like being adrift on those soft ocean waves. I remembered that young boy scout and that college kid and thought, "Yeah, I'm back."

Hi. My name's Jim, and I'm a hammock camper.

Well, hey and welcome. I went to school in Auburn from 1987-1992, so I'm familiar with Smith's Station. Glad to have you as part of the Alabama hanging team. - Navigator

Welcome to Hammock Forums from Florida.
I used to sail also and I agree, sleeping in a hammock does compare with sleeping on a sailboat. Thanks for bringing up that memory

Welcome to HF from Bama..............If you ever get over to Opelika check out the Ms Ennis Cafe. Family owned and operated with some of the best Naner Puddin on the planet, very old family recipe. I used to live in Opelika, attended FUMC on Avenue A. I think I've eaten at Ms. Ennis' a few times but it's been so long. I'll definitely go by next time I'm over there around lunch. Can't make the March 3rd hang but I'll be keeping an eye out for any others. Thanks for the invite!

Darn near close, Bat. I'd like to eventually try a DIY Primaloft UQ and have bookmarked about 12-15 different threads already.
