Two thoughts about that...
I wore ship, and hove-to broadside to the wind, with the SEEP to leeward protected from the wind. Your sock was in irons, hung into the wind lengthwise, so the wind could get under the edges of the SEEP. I prefer the idea of using a tarp as a wind break, as opposed to breaking the simplicity of the SEEP with velcro tabs. Next time try hanging broadside to the wind!
Since there was no precipitation, and no chance of it, I tried tucking the SEEP inside the sock. That worked very well!
