You are very lucky to have so much space up there that can't be patrolled by farmers in their green Land Rovers!

Not so Grasshopper! There's a distant land, far to the north (but very definitely still in the UK!) where more enlightened views prevail.
Wild camping is no problem throughout most of Scotland, leaving aside urban parks and folks gardens, as long as you use 'common sense' and get there 'under your own steam'.
