Hey all, new guy with ?'s

Want to start by saying thanks, I've already learned a lot by reading the forums.

I'm new to backpacking and hiking, but have always loved the outdoors.
My previous camping experiences were many years ago and involved cars and tents.

I've been getting into daytripping the AT and am ready to start gearing up for the overnighters.

I've already bought a light 2 man kelty tent, but have yet to use it.
Having my doubts already. Will likely keep it so I can camp with my 9 year old daughter from time to time, but already have seen the advantages of the "hang" for myself.

I've never attempted sleeping in a hammock, but have lounged in open hammocks and love the feel.

I'm seriously considering making my first hammock purchase and am leaning toward the DEEP JUNGLE ASYM ZIP XL.

Have yet to read anything bad about them..... everyone seems to like them a lot.

I value the opinions of experience users so I ask all of you.......

Do you think this would be a wise place to start for a person in my situation?

Thanks in advance for any help and info.

Welcome Dave! I'm not familiar with the Deep Jungle A-Sym hammock, but I'm sure someone will chime in. Meanwhile, we're glad you're here!

    Welcome aboard.

I think Hennessy makes a nice product, but there are a good number of others out there too.

For the price, I would check out

    First of all, WELCOME!
Welcome to HF (Hammock Forums) and TWOEA (The World of Endless Acronyms). And welcome to your newest obsession!
You'll have no worries from the hammock you're looking at, but you may want to consider watching the "for sale" threads. There's nearly always a good deal on a low mileage hammock of various makes.
    Good luck.

Thanks for the welcomes, ideas, input, sugestions and lessons.

Shug, I'm gonna check the video out as soon as I get a chance, thanks.

Dblcorona, I've read about the WB, but never heard of the tttrailgear (but I'm new to this stuff) unfortunately one of the ones I might like is backordered??????

I need to get a hands on feel for these before I make the jump, but patience is not one of my virtues.

There's a hang/demo coming up in May? in PA ...... no?????
    Info please if so????

I hope I'm able to wait till then, but like I said, I'm fightin the urge!

Shug, just watched the first 7 in the series...... you feelin alright? LOL

    Very entertaining and certainly informative.

I'm certain I could go out with the right gear and "get er done" just from what you have shown me.

You must have had a blast making those videos.

Thanks for the lessons and the laughs.

Also, there is a group MAHHA hang at Pine Grove Furnace SP in pa, not too far from jersey. You could check out a whole variety of hammocks, gear and the like there. Check out details in this thread, and good luck.
